]]>Forever Young is Vintage Fare's first CD.

The songs on Forever Young were chosen for a number of reasons. First, we all had to like them; believe in them, actually, as great songs. They didn't necessarily have to ever enjoy smash hit status, though many did. What was more important, to us, was that each song stand on its own as something above the ordinary. We also wanted to showcase some of the best work from some of the finest songwriters.

Of course, we're not all equally passionate about every song. For each of us, one or more songs has a special significance, which is how they made it into our repertoire in the first place. Wes, our harmonica player, for example, is an admitted Dylan devotee:

"For me, Forever Young is a Dylan masterpiece; one that's intensely personal. Written for his own son, Dylan's words speak to, and from, the heart of every parent that wants the best for their children. It doesn't wish for an easy or comfortable life; rather a life examined; a righteous life, a life surrounded by light and truth; and filled with dreams. When I play my little harmonica solo in Forever Young, my eyes often water up thinking of my own sons, and I offer the notes as a prayer for them.

It's no accident that we chose Forever Young as the title for this recording. We close our live performances with Forever Young because it's not just about children. It's our wish and prayer for everybody in our audiences; for every member of humanity.

Alan Klein's To be a Kid Again, the opening song, is the other "bookend" for the material in between. It's a song about a man reminiscing on the simplicity of childhood, and the difficult transition to adulthood.

The songs in between each come from younger times, or speak to the inner child in each of us; the part of us that feels love, joy, sorrow, yearning, disappointment and, most of all, hope.

In another song, It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Dylan wrote these profound words: "That he not busy being born is busy dying." I don't think truer words were ever spoken.

By staying busy "being born," we're all staying Forever Young.

"No Thanks To Hancock" is the debut album for Corporate T-Shirt, and is best listened to loud. The guitars are raw, the bass heavy, and the drums busy with some of the most interesting kick action ever recorded. With 10 short songs, this album still packs in dynamic hooks, catchy melodies, and inventive riffs. Most of the songs can be described as post-grunge or punk, with one having a live audience, another being a punk jam song with two guitar solos, and two songs being anything but punk. "Gone Away" is a solo acoustic by Jones and "Broken N Fallen" is a slower song but still loud and distorted. The album sounds like a musical invasion, one you hope occupies the music scene for a long time.

Skip McKinley's first solo release, "Executive Session" was completed in a matter of months. This second release took years. "It was a huge discovery process," reflects flutist Skip McKinley who after a year and a half in the studio realized, "I wanted to create music as well as play sets of traditional Irish tunes." The recording stopped and the critical listening and thought began. The notion of each track becoming a musical fairytale came gradually to the surface.

When recording resumed the creative process was in motion. "Fairytales" developed an architecture by "contrasting sets of tunes, stand alone pieces and original compositions" says Skip. His own compositions were arranged into sets and they include Barbequed Leprechaun, The Song that No One Knew and When Kathryn was Anna. His guest musicians are long time friends from around New England.

Among other things, this recording is a character study of the 19th century wood flute. Skip's 10- keyed granadilla wood flute was made by the exceptional London based James Pask circa 1850 and was primarily used for baroque and classical music. "There's something in this flute that always rewards you for hard work." The voice of the baroque flute is clearly present in Mrs. Judge. This piece was composed by 17th century Irish harpist Turlough O'Carolan. He was greatly influenced by baroque composers such as Vivaldi.

Skip's alter ego architect, Michael McKinley brings his design sensibilities to his music, saying "Music is architectural and architecture is musical." In individual pieces such as Morrison's Jig and Bill Hart's Skip explains, "The shape of the tune becomes all important."

Percussion plays a big role on the recording. Dave Mattacks, former drummer for Fairport Convention, was intrigued by adapting a drum set to traditional tunes. "I have long been amazed by the simple and primitive sound of bodhran (goatskin drum) and wood flute" says Skip. He and percussionist Mance Grady explored this on the hop jigs Boys of Ballysadare and Rocky Road to Dublin.

"Like good architecture, music should be balanced and represent the creation of a whole composition," Skip adds, "It may have taken nearly a decade but in 'Fairytales' I think I've finally achieved that."

"These songs were all written in the fall months of 2008 at a time in which I was living back at home after finishing my college career and going on tour. The songs presented here are primarily about looking back over what had been a great stretch for myself as well as the band. As a band we currently find ourselves at a crossroad of sorts. Each of us have many exciting things coming up: jobs, college, relationships, moving, etc. It's hard to tell what the future will hold but I would certainly hope that we will all continue to write and perform music we love. 5 Minutes Late releases their first five song EP with high anticipation. Originating from many different influences and styles, this album has a little something for everyone ranging from mellow to in your face aggressive rock. Being a local favorite with regards to small and medium size venues, the band wanted to expand its audience, and so comes the five song freshman release. Moving forward the band wants to continue to write great influential songs that have meaning to everyone. In the coming months, the band will be going back to the board to write new songs with great anticipation of what the new year will bring.

The album was recorded by Andy Mitchell at Audio Bay recording studio in Rockford, MI and mastered by Drew Lavyne (credits include The Foo Fighters, Dave Mathews Band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more).

This album has been a work in progress for over fifteen (15) years. The first piece on this album ("Broken Light") was sequenced with Passport Mastertracks Pro (5) on an Apple Macintosh Plus computer, using only a Roland JV-80 and a Yamaha TG-500 synthesizer. I recorded the sequence into an inexpensive tape deck. Since then, I have had it mastered to, hopefully, fit with the other pieces on the album.

The music has changed as I have gained access to more powerful software and learned how to use the technology more effectively. After my first two pieces, I acquired software that allowed my to add distorted guitars to the mix, which, I felt, was important to add an aggressive quality that only distorted guitars can provide. On my most recent pieces, Harmonic Propulsion and Trick or Trick, I relied heavily on the guitar sample library LPC by Prominy played through Native Instrument's Guitar Rig. I used a wide variety of software synthesizers, samplers, and effects, although some hardware synthesizers were also used.

Everything on the album was played through a (piano style) keyboard (or, in a few cases, input via a computer). I resisted using loops.

A few of my pieces have been included in various independent compilation albums. In addition, Blitzkrieg and Equilibrium were demonstration pieces for Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist and Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition software. Although not specifically related to this album, I was also a beta tester on Toontracks EZDrummer software, which I used on my most recent pieces.
